The funding levels of GEN-AU
The application for reasearch proposals for GEN-AU II has been completed. At the moment, applications can be made for the GEN-AU Women’s Advancement Programme and Mobility Programme.
GEN-AU II completed. The call for proposals for GEN-AU II has been concluded. Funds for joint, network, pilot, ELSA and international projects have been assigned.
Applications can be made for the Women’s Advancement Programme and the Mobility Programme.

GEN-AU III with new project funding. The call for proposals for GEN-AU III is planned for late 2007. Details and application forms can be downloaded here later.

In addition to joint, pilot and ELSA projects as well as networks, 5 funds were given to associated research teams. At the moment, three of them are still in progress, two have been concluded already.

ELSA projects are interdisciplinary projects that consist of academic and/or industrial research teams. These groups deal with ethic, legal, social and economic aspects of genomics as well as with the consequences of genomics on politics and society. The process of application is to be made in two stages and the maximum duration is three years. The three ELSA projects currently in progress are to be joined by another one or two projects shortly.

In natural sciences and engineering, women in leading positions are something of a rarity. Therefore, GEN-AU developed a programme for the advancement of women and gives money to child care, training and further education and reasearch stays. An informal application is sufficient.

The mobility programme offers scholarships for visits abroad to postdocs and PhD students of GEN-AU research projects.

Networks pool expertise and at the same time serve as training and education platforms. They consist of at least 3 academic and/or industrial research teams which are developing technologies and methods interdisciplinarily. The application process is two-stage and maximum duration is 3 years. At the moment, 4 networks are being sponsored.

Pilot projects consist of 1-2 research teams and aim at providing evidence for the validity of a research hypothesis in the field of technology or biological research – a „proof of principle“. They are limited in time to one year and have a maximum budget of 100,000 Euros at their disposal. These kinds of projects are especially addressed to women and young scientists. Application is one-stage. 8 pilot projects are currently being supported.

Interdisciplinary projects can be compared to the „integrated projects“ of the EU. They consist of at least 3 academic and/or industrial research teams which cooperate in a joint biological enterprise. Application is two-stage and maximum duration is 3 years. GEN-AU II is supporting 8 joint projects.
